Questions and answers about Q-Snap

What is Q-Snap?

Q-Snap is a speech photo translator: you take a picture of text – menu, signs, letters, book pages – and have it translated into your language and read aloud in a natural voice. It runs in the browser and can be added to the home screen of iPhone and Android.

Is Q-Snap free?

The first 15 snap s are free, without registration. After that, Q-Snap 27 EUR cost per year with unlimited use – paid by Vipps or card, with no commitment.

Do I need to download an app from the App Store or Google Play?

No. Q-Snap is a web app: open the app.qsnap.no in the browser and add it to the home screen in two taps. It updates itself.

What languages do Q-Snap support?

Translation and reading in 30 languages, including Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish and Dutch. Q-Snap recognize the language in the picture – including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Hindi, Tamil, Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, Russian, Ukrainian, Greek and Georgian.

What happens to my photos?

The photo is sent encrypted to a server in the EU, the text is retrieved, and the photo is deleted. Q-Snap have no account and do not build a profile of you.

Can I just read without sound?

Yes. Select "Text Only" in the settings, and you will have the text enlarged and readable without reading. Text size and light/dark appearance are remembered.

Does Q-Snap work offline?

The app opens offline, but the actual image recognition and translation takes place on the server. A normal mobile network is sufficient – one image uses a few hundred kilobytes.

How is Q-Snap different from Google Lens?

Q-Snap is built around reading with natural voices, requires no account, does not store the images and processes everything in the EU. The text appears clean and enlargeable – not superimposed on the image.
